AboutFace

AboutFace is a 9’ diameter 12’ high steel sculpture located in the roundabout at the intersection of E 12th street and Gulliver Drive on the Wayne State College Campus in Wayne, Nebraska. It can be viewed while driving around the roundabout, from various axes through the campus, and up close from the circular sidewalk.

The piece consists of 259 profiles that were generated from the faculty, students and staff of the college. The profiles and framework are constructed from 1/4” thick weathering steel and are intended to slowly change/rust with time. The individual silhouettes are grouped 4 high into stacks or “totems” and arrayed around a central point. These 64 totems are welded to 6 arced and cross braced frames which in turn sit on concrete foundations.

The sculpture’s website includes a searchable database that allows viewers to locate specific profiles.
