Kulturmöllan is a non-profit art space located in Lovestad, a small hamlet in the south of Sweden. Operating inside a grain mill which was in use up until the early 2000’s the building’s history literally leaks out of every nook and cranny. A series of Triennial exhibitions have explored the role of this mill in the Swedish countryside while providing a unique setting for diverse group of international new media artists to experiment with site specific installations. Lovestad’s close proximity to the Wanås Konst, the city of Malmo, and Copenhagen Denmark has allowed critical attention to descend on the work shown in this small village. Two works were developed for the 2010 Triennial on the theme of “shadow and light”.
Looking for ways to invite playful participation from visitors and be sensitive to the peculiar nature of the space, this piece imprints your shadow onto light sensitive surface inside a grain silo. Much like the grain which moved through building for over 100 years, the work makes you a temporary part of the building.
Walk into the dark grain silo.
Stand in front of the large panel at the back of the room.
After a few seconds a lamp clicks on and off as if exposing film.
Walk back to the entrance and turn around.
